Description
The sign says Barrs Cabin because it sits on Chris Barrs property. The cabin was actually built in the early 1850s by Oscar and Martha Mechem and is know for both tragedy and history. Tragedy: The Mechems 3 year old son disappeared in 1959 and was apparently taken by a pack of grey wolves and killed. History: This cabin is noted as one of the stop-over houses for the Underground Railroad. This cabin is one of a few log cabins still sitting on original sites; and was discovered while razing the home built around the one room cabin.
